Hocking Hills | The ideal girls weekend destination

Group photo in front of the vineyards at Le Petit Chevalier Winery

It’s an annual tradition. One weekend a year, usually in January when we all need to recover from the holidays, a group of longtime girlfriends get together to spend 2 nights together under one roof. I know we’re not the only ones because we host hundreds of girls getaways each year at our cabins. Some that have been friends for 50+ years!

There’s something wonderful about staying up into the wee hours of the night (or morning) laughing until your cheeks hurt with the friends you’ve known the longest. A cozy cabin in the woods makes this experience even better. Keeping the fire going, unwinding in the hot tub, board games around the table and having some really unique trails and wineries minutes away, top off the escape.

If you’re like us you’ll all want to arrive at your home away from home and get settled in. There are some nearby restaurants to carry out from and feed the group as they arrive. Captain Ron’s Pirate Pizza, Pizza Crossing, and Millstone BBQ are all great options. You can read about our favorite area dining on our dining blog post. Our cabins all come with fully stocked kitchens if you prefer to cook or you might even hire a caterer to have dinner ready for you.

I always recommend squeezing in at least one hike, and more if possible! The Hocking Hills region offers trails for all ages and abilities. This year we chose to head to Conkle’s Hollow Nature Preserve. We started with the 2.5 mile rim trail, which we had entirely to ourselves this particular January Saturday morning. (Winter is the best time to visit if you’d like to avoid the crowds) We finished up on the 3/4 mile out and back gorge trail.

Taking a longer one way hike is a good option with a larger group because you’ll likely have more than one car. On a previous girls weekend we chose to park one car at Cedar Falls and drive another over to Old Man’s Cave to start our trek. The route from Old Man’s Cave to Cedar Falls is peaceful and you’ll have seen two of the most popular sights in Hocking Hills State Park.

After hiking you may be craving a drink or an in cabin massage! This time around we chose the former and ended up at Le Petit Chevalier Winery. This adorable family farm and vineyard was just what we we’re looking for. Their quaint tasting room had great seating, wonderful views, and lots of board games. You can order wine flights to taste the various selections or order by the bottle.

While we were there in winter, I can not wait to go back in the warmer months. The setting is something out of a movie. The farm dogs greeting us at our car and the sheep roaming the pasture were also a highlight.

Hocking Hills Winery is another option and I highly recommend their wine slushies which can be enjoyed out on their patio. If you’d like to make a day of it Cork and Tap Excursions will pick you up at your cabin doorstep and chauffer your group to local wineries and breweries.

Whether you’re group is looking for lots of action or lots of relaxation, Hocking Hills is the destination for you. If you’ve been putting off planning your next girls getaway, I encourage you to make the calls, you won’t regret it!
